LIVE: Major road closed after serious crash as people urged to avoid the area - updates

A large cordon is in place following a crash in Radcliffe.

Stand Lane and the A665 New Road have been closed while police investigate a collision.

It follows a crash on Wednesday night (September 24) involving a grey Vauxhall Astra.

Firefighters rescued three people using specialist equipment. The car has been left with its roof cut off.

The extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Forensic markers have been placed on the road close to the crash scene.

Bury council has asked people to stay away from the area.

A council spokesperson said: "Stand Lane, Radcliffe New Rd and Pilkington Way are closed where they meet at the junction as police deal with an incident.

"Diversions are in place. Please avoid the area if you can."

A post from the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: "A665 New Road in both directions blocked, queueing traffic due to police incident at Stand Lane."

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
