LIVE: Trains cancelled after lorry hits railway bridge in Salford - latest updates
Passengers are facing major disruption after a lorry hit a railway bridge in Salford. The vehicle struck a bridge on Green Lane, next to Patricroft station, near Eccles this morning (January 7).
Trains are being cancelled on routes between Manchester and Liverpool as a result of the incident. Rail replacement buses are also being used.
A National Rail spokesperson said: "A road vehicle colliding with a bridge between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Victoria / Manchester Airport means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled. Disruption is expected until 11.30am."
The incident is affecting Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services. Greater Manchester Police says the collision took place at 7.55am.
It comes as further snowfall overnight has led to disruption on roads and railways this morning. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in force until 10am.

Separately, rail passengers have been affected by a signalling issue at Manchester Airport today.
The issue is expected to cause disruption until 3pm - affecting services between the airport and Piccadilly.
TransPennine Express says passengers are now set to face disruption until 1pm.
There is still disruption expected until midday.

Trains are now running over the bridge again and Green Lane is clear.
Network Rail says engineers are inspecting the bridge.
