LIVE: All traffic stopped on M60 near Trafford Centre due to 'police incident' - latest updates

Police have shut the M60 near the Trafford Centre following a 'police led incident'. The anticlockwise stretch of road is temporarily closed between Junction 10 and 9, according to Highways England.

It is unclear what the nature of the incident is or when the carriageway will reopen.

There is currently one mile of congestion.

In a tweet, Highways England said: "Traffic is being temporarily held on the #M60 anticlockwise between J10 and J9 near #Manchester due to a police-led incident. There is one mile of congestion on the approach to the incident."

The National Highways advice says: "National Highways have resources in attendance to assist with traffic management.

"Due to the nature of this incident we are not able to advise how long the closure is likely to remain in place.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey."

Road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbols on road signs.

National Highways started issued information about the incident just after 6pm, the road was announced to be fully closed at around 6.35pm.

Traffic service Inrix has issued this warning: "All traffic being temporarily held, severe delays and queueing traffic due to police incident on M60 anticlockwise from J10 B5214 Trafford Boulevard (Trafford Centre) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park). Congestion to J15 (Swinton Interchange)."
