M4 latest updates as traffic slows with Easter holiday getaways

Traffic is moving slowly along the M4 as holidaymakers head west for the weekend. There is queuing traffic at various points of the M4 across south Wales starting from junction 23 for Magor and stretching to Pont Abraham in Carmarthenshire.

Travel time between Magor services in Monmouthshire and Pont Abraham services is around one hour and 34 minutes as at 4.30pm on Thursday evening. The most severe delays are around Newport, with at least five miles of slow-moving traffic. Travel time is around 25 minutes heading west in that area.

The east side of the carriageway isn't experiencing severe delays with the travel time between Pont Abraham and Magor taking around one hour and 12 minutes at 4.30pm on Thursday evening. There is some congestion between Cardiff East and Tredegar Park however. Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports that there is also slow traffic on the M4 at Neath Port Talbot due to holidaymakers.

For those heading further afield there are severe delays at Dover after French protesters launched another day of industrial action. Flights were grounded and cross-Channel trains have been cancelled, the Daily Mail reports.
