Lewis O’Brien makes Huddersfield Town play-off admission ahead of Luton clash

Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien has admitted that the club will be disappointed if they do not go on to seal a place in the play-offs in the coming weeks.

The Terriers have experienced an incredible transformation under the guidance of head coach Carlos Corberan this season after meandering their way to a 20th place finish in the Championship last year.

Currently fourth in the second-tier, Huddersfield will move above Nottingham Forest in the league standings tonight if they beat Luton Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

However, when you consider that there is only a three point gap between the Terriers and Blackburn Rovers who are seventh in the table, they cannot afford to experience a drop-off in performance levels between now and the end of the term.

Having sealed a 1-0 victory over Hull City earlier this month, it will be intriguing to see whether Huddersfield will be able to back up this display by producing a positive performance in this evening’s clash.

Ahead of his side’s meeting with Luton, O’Brien has shared an honest verdict on the current situation at Huddersfield.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the midfielder said: “I think it’s different pressure because when you’re fighting relegation, if you stay out of the relegation zone, it’s not like you’ve actually achieved anything.

“We’re now in a position where if we don’t at least get to the play-offs, it’ll be a disappointment for everyone and that’s where the nerves and anxiety comes.

“We’re in the driver’s seat now, it’s one of those things.

“There’s a lot more pressure and it’s a different kind of anxiety because the pressure’s on us.”
