'My first option', Fabian Schar drops hint on Newcastle United future and talks about team pact after Spurs
Fabian Schar has signalled that he wants to be part of Eddie Howe's revolution at Newcastle United in the next few years. Schar has been in negotiations with the Magpies over a contract extension as he looks to sign one of the most important deals of his career.
At 30, Schar could get past the 100 appearance mark for Newcastle during the run-in but has an eye on the future too. After signing a one year extension last summer, the deal put talk of a move to the Bundesliga on hold.
Schar's German-based agency Sport 360 have excellent links in the Bundesliga with clients already at clubs like Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin. But Schar says Newcastle are his first choice as he considers his next step.
When asked about his future, Schar told Chronicle Live: "I think I will know soon. I enjoy playing for Newcastle United under Eddie Howe. Hopefully, we can say more in a few weeks. But I'm very happy here. Newcastle are my first option."
Schar has never made excuses during his time at Newcastle and has impressively fronted up when things haven't been up to scratch. And he admitted that serious words had to be exchanged after the recent 5-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
Schar, who had a solid game in the 1-0 win over Wolves, admitted there had to be a reaction after the collapse against Spurs in the second half: "We had to talk to each other about Spurs. Especially the second half.
"Every single player knew it wasn't good enough. First you start with yourself, then perform better as a team, I think it's what everyone done. Obviously we know that Spurs in the second half wasn't good enough from us. We had to show that reaction.
