Leny Yoro set to wear iconic Manchester United shirt number after £58.9m transfer

Leny Yoro is expected to be assigned the iconic No.15 shirt worn by Manchester United hero Nemanja Vidic after completing his transfer to Old Trafford this summer. The highly-rated French defender, 18, put pen-to-paper at Old Trafford after the club agreed a fee worth up to £58.9million with Lille for his signature.

It marks the second deal rubber-stamped by INEOS this summer with Joshua Zirkzee leading the way. Yoro made 60 appearances for Lille after breaking into their first-team, while Spanish giants Real Madrid were also interested in the player before he eventually opted for a move to Manchester instead.

United are in the market for up to three centre-backs this summer - though further additions will be governed by possible outgoings - with Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt also on their radar. Mason Greenwood has been sold to French Ligue 1 side Marseille and others could follow him in leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

Upon completing his big-money switch, Yoro told MUFC media: "Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour. Since my first conversation with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project.
