Erik ten Hag reveals whether he considered quitting Manchester United due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Erik ten Hag's confidence in his own ability and his trust that Manchester United would improve were the reasons why he didn't consider quitting as manager last season.

United were awful in the Premier League in 2023/24, finishing eighth in the table. They suffered some bleak results and ended the campaign with a minus goal difference.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's acquisition of a minority stake was made official in February and the uncertainty around Ten Hag's position increased with every bad performance.

United contacted other managers in the build-up to the FA Cup final, but Manchester City were defeated at Wembley and Ten Hag was subsequently backed to remain in charge.

There were 17 days between the FA Cup final and the announcement Ten Hag would continue and many believed the prolonged uncertainty was disrespectful to the Dutchman.

In an interview with AD, Ten Hag was asked whether he thought about quitting last season due to the pressure and uncertainty and he said: "This might sound a bit clinical, but I think about these things in terms of process. And if you know how processes work, you know the line often goes up.

"But also sometimes down due to circumstances. If you know what you’re doing, if you know which direction you want to go and base your decisions on that, in the most accurate way possible.

"If you set up the right structures and work together in a good way with clear lines. If you also have a good relationship with the players, with the people on the floor. Then you know it will get better again.
