Leicester City unveiling as Brendan Rodgers waits on transfer decision

Here’s the latest Leicester City news on Wednesday, 22 June, 2022.

Leicester City have unveiled their home shirt for the upcoming season.

Usually worn on the final day of the previous season, supply chain issues mean City have only just been able to share the new design with supporters ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. It is expected to go on sale some time in July.

The new home kit, the fifth to be made by Adidas, features a gold club badge and a white collar, which the club say is inspired by the shirts of the 1970s Jimmy Bloomfield team. It is the first City home kit to have a collar since the Champions League campaign of 2016-17, while it is the first shirt to have a white collar for more than a decade, since the Burrda effort of 2011-12.

Leicester City have confirmed that their opening fixture of the new season against Brentford will be pushed back to Sunday, August 7.

As reported by LeicestershireLive last week, a clash with the city’s annual Caribbean Carnival put a 3pm kick-off on Saturday, August 6, in doubt for the curtain-raiser at the King Power Stadium. The club have now announced they will host the Bees a day later, with kick-off now at 2pm.

Leicester’s Caribbean Carnival is one of the biggest in the country and organisers are prepared for up to 80,000 people to attend what is an all-day event that requires significant policing. Although the carnival is being held in person for the first time in three years, following two Covid cancellations, it always takes place on the first weekend of August. The date for this year’s edition was officially set in January.
