Leicester City transfer state of play: Youri Tielemans in limbo, sales and six signings wanted

Leicester City’s transfer window is yet to really get up and running. While their Premier League rivals have been wheeling and dealing for more than a few weeks, there have been no arrivals at City, and no significant exits either.

There are now just five top-flight sides who are yet to announce a first-team signing, with City joined in that bracket by Chelsea, Manchester United, Brentford, and Wolves. Given how close the others are to deals, City may be last to get a transfer over the line.

There is now five weeks until the Premier League campaign kicks off and if manager Brendan Rodgers wants his “healthy shake-up” of the squad to be complete by then, there is plenty the club need to do, especially as sales are needed to fund all of the prospective signings. Here is a look at every area of the City squad and their plans for the window.

City have explored the goalkeeper market and have considered making changes to their number one, but if they were to do so this summer, it would require them moving Kasper Schmeichel on a year before his contract ends. That would certainly help them free up some of the wage budget, but with the likes of Brighton’s Robert Sanchez quoted at £50m, the captain would not be cheap to replace.

That is unless City look in-house. Danny Ward has always been referred to by Rodgers as his other number one, and was finally handed a Premier League debut last term. He’s under contract until 2025.

Then there’s Daniel Iversen, player of the year on loan at Preston last term. He’s shown himself to be keen, returning to pre-season with the non-internationals despite travelling around with Denmark just two weeks earlier, and it remains to be seen if City will keep him in their squad, loan him out again,
