Leicester City sent 'amazing' Gary Lineker message as substitutes star on another historic night
Leicester City produced a stunning late comeback at PSV Eindhoven to reach their first-ever European semi-final and take a huge step towards silverware.
In what will be remembered as one of the great nights in the club’s history, James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira both found the net in the final 15 minutes to send City into the last four of the Europa Conference League, and just two legs from a final in Albania.
City looked like they would, as they did in the first leg, be left to rue missed opportunities as golden chances for Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka went begging, while Eran Zahavi capitalised on a Youri Tielemans error to put the hosts in front.
But Brendan Rodgers’ substitutions helped swing the game and City’s persistence and build-up play eventually told as Ayoze Perez set up Maddison’s 14th of the season, and then Ricardo followed up Patson Daka’s saved shot to score with just two minutes remaining.
Gary Lineker paid tribute to Leicester City's heroes as they overcame PSV Eindhoven to secure their first-ever semi-final in a European competition.
Brendan Rodgers' side secured a 2-1 victory tonight, having come from behind to snatch a memorable win courtesy of goals from James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira.
Maddison’s equaliser gave Leicester the belief they needed to secure a win, and it was left to Pereira to send the travelling fans wild when he prodded in at the back post after Patson Daka had been denied.
And Match of the Day host Lineker wasted no time in praising the achievement as the Foxes hero took to Twitter to give his thoughts on what was a terrific night for the club.
Leicester City goalscorer James Maddison was overwhelmingly proud of the performance put in by the entire team against PSV
