Leicester City have £6m incentive to beat Southampton

Leicester City could stand to gain as much as £6.6m if they beat Southampton at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes can finish as high as eighth or as low as 11th, with each place in the Premier League table being worth £2.2m in merit payments. That means Leicester could finish the season with £28.6m prize money or £22m.

In what will be a summer market where every million counts, the game against Southampton on Sunday is far from being a dead rubber for both teams. Wolves are two points above City in eighth and travel to Liverpool on the final day in what will be a difficult fixture as the Reds look to clinch the Premier League title.

Brighton are just a point behind Leicester in 10th and host seventh-placed West Ham on Sunday afternoon. Brentford are three points adrift of City in 11th and need an eight goal swing to overtake Brendan Rodgers' men. That will be difficult, but nothing is impossible as they host Leeds United.

Newcastle are technically capable of overtaking Leicester but would need a 20-goal swing in order to do so, making the feat as good as impossible.

Wolves stand to gain over £4m if they beat Liverpool, which would in turn hand the Premier League title to Manchester City and deny Leicester a place in the top eight. A motivated Wolves means even more is at stake for Leicester to go and secure victory against the Saints on the final day.
