Jannik Vestergaard will miss out on a place at the World Cup unless he leaves Leicester City this summer.
The centre-back is away with Denmark for their Nations League games this month, but his international manager Kasper Hjulmand has said he will not take any players to Qatar unless they play regularly for their clubs over the first few months of the new season.
For Vestergaard, that means leaving the King Power Stadium, given how far he has fallen down City’s centre-back pecking order, below even midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. Last summer’s £15million signing from Southampton did not play a single minute of the club’s final 16 Premier League games, failing to even make the bench for the last nine.
While Hjulmand has not specifically said his players need transfers, he warned that they must be sharp going into November, when the World Cup begins, and that means regular game-time. Vestergaard has been named by Danish media as one of a few players he was referring to.
