Praet, Iversen, Wright, Hirst, McAteer – what next for Leicester City's loanees?

Leicester City were already aware of the benefits of the loan market, but this season helped prove it.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall returned from a year at Luton as a much wiser and much better player, his loan with the Hatters taking him to a level where he could be the catalyst for an upturn in City’s season. The club will have another group of loanees returning this summer, but can any of them make an impact like Dewsbury-Hall has? Here’s a look at each of their seasons, and what happens next.

The Belgian midfielder was regarded by a large portion of City fans as a player who made their team better, even if there was limited statistical contribution to both the attack and defence. That has been proven at Torino.

In the 23 games that Praet played in Serie A, Torino earned 40 points. Stretch that over a season and they would have finished fifth, in the Europa League spots. From the 15 games he was injured, Torino picked up 10 points. Extend that record across the campaign and they would have finished bottom. It’s no wonder they want him back.

And it seems like they could get him. The midfielder was critical of Brendan Rodgers after his exit and it feels unlikely that he will return to City to take up a spot in the squad again, especially with the club looking to sell players to fund new signings.

Given his skillset, and how he does make those around him better, that would be a shame. When City were playing in a 4-2-3-1, it did not feel like there was a role for Praet. He could not fill in for Youri Tielemans in the deeper role as he did not have the vision, nor did he have the creativity in the number 10 position to overtake James Maddison. Now City are playing with number eights, he would be a perfect fit.
