Leeds faithful will surely be livid as image emerges - opinion
Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch may be wondering why his team were not awarded a penalty in their last Premier League outing.
Over the weekend, Marsch oversaw his first game as Whites boss as his new side took on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Sadly for Leeds supporters, their club fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat thanks to a single goal scored by Harvey Barnes.
With the margins of defeat being so narrow, some will have been furious to see that their team could have also been given a penalty for an incident in the game.
Indeed, in an image shared on Twitter, Foxes defender Caglar Soyuncu can be seen clearly kicking Rodrigo’s foot as he tries to clear the ball inside the penalty area. However, no penalty was awarded despite the VAR able to check the challenge as well.
TIF Thoughts on the Leeds display…
Without former manager Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, it was certainly interesting to see how Leeds played under their new boss. In the Guardian’s review of the game, writer Ben Fisher said life under Marsch should be exciting, even if this game showed something ‘painfully familiar’ with regard to the result.
He wrote: “Life after Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds does not look dull but for all the promise, fun and trademark buccaneering style, there was a painfully familiar outcome as Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge ended in a slender defeat.”
However, had Leeds been given a penalty, that review of the game and performance may well have been a whole lot more positive. With that in mind, many of the club’s supporters may well be feeling rather aggrieved right now.
