Langholm sisters enjoy success at Scottish Athletics Championships

Langholm sisters Matilda and Antonia Brockley enjoyed success at the Scottish Athletics Championships at the weekend.

The pair, who receive support through the “Welcome to Langholm” Future Champions Awards, took part this time in the U17 age group.

Matilda enjoyed success on Saturday in winning the U17 triple jump with a new personal best and first time jump over 12m with a jump of 12.08m.

It was also the longest jump by a female athlete in Scotland this year.

It now means Matilda is number three in the UK rankings for U17 this year, and moves her up to number three in the all-time rankings for the U17 triple jump in Scotland.

Antonia, meanwhile, competed in the 100m and, following heats and semi-finals, finished fifth with a new personal best time of 12.35 seconds – an excellent result with a strong field of athletes.

There was more success for the sisters on Sunday when Matilda won a silver medal for second place in the U17 long jump. You can see video footage of one of Matilda’s jumps on Sunday at: www.instagram.com/reel/C-xiKOJNh1q/. Also on Sunday, Antonia finished fourth equal in the 200m in a race in which the winner, Emma Clark, set a championships record and the second fastest time ever ran by a female U17 Scottish athlete.

Matilda has been selected to compete in the triple jump for the Scotland U20 team at the Manchester International at Sport City Stadium on Saturday, August 24.

This event historically sees Scotland take on England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ulster and a GB U20 team as well as a representative British League invitation team, and, on occasion, a team from abroad.
