Kasper Schmeichel comment made as Leicester City goalkeeper makes landmark appearance

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been dubbed "as good as ever" by Gary Lineker after making a landmark 461st appearance for the Foxes.

The 35-year-old started against former club Leeds United on Saturday afternoon and, in the process, moved onto City 's all-time appearance maker podium alongside Graham Cross and Adam Black.

Featuring again for between the sticks also extended a streak of starting in consecutive matches to 139th consecutive Premier League appearance, the longest current run in the top-flight, and the first Leicester player to pass a century in the competition.

Once the action was underway, Schmeichel was called upon to make four smart saves to preserve back-to-back clean sheets.

Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Lineker marked the club captain's milestone ahead of the analysis section of the show.

"I have to say, I thought Leeds were very good and a bit unfortunate today, but they had Kasper Schmeichel to beat. 461 appearances now for the Foxes and as good as ever."

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright agreed, saying: "Yeah, (Schmeichel) did do very well today ... when (Leeds) got into situations where they created chances, Kasper Schmeichel was very good and made some very good saves."

Lineker was also at pains to point out that Schmeichel pulled off a "brilliant save" to deny Raphinha from point-blank range, which Wright agreed with.

Match-winner Harvey Barnes also received rave reviews on the programme from studio pundit Micah Richards.

"He was a class above today. Special mention to Vardy as well for his running in behind," Richards said. "But Barnes was the one. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.
