'Heroic' - National media verdict as Leicester City see off Rennes in Europa Conference League

Leicester City made it through to the quarter-final of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, thanks to a 3-2 aggregate victory over French side Rennes.

A second half goal from the returning Wesley Fofana, his first for the club, turned out to be crucial as City repelled a late comeback from Rennes. It is just the second time in their history that City have made it to the final eight of a European competition.

The encounter at Roazhon Park was an enthralling one with City taking a 2-0 lead from last week’s home leg at the King Power Stadium. Goals from Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho meant that Brendan Rodgers’ men had something to hold onto.

While Fofana was excellent for 78 minutes, there was also a fine late save from Kasper Schmeichel as Leicester produced a brave, gritty display to secure victory on aggregate, sparking bad-tempered scenes at the final whistle.

Wesley Fofana ended eight months of injury hell by heading Leicester City into the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League.
