Leicester City ratings v Brentford: Caglar Soyuncu stands tall but Harvey Barnes underwhelms

Leicester City moved back into the top half of the Premier League table thanks to a pair of stunning strikes against Brentford.

Timothy Castagne picked out the top corner from 20 yards on his first appearance of the calendar year, and then James Maddison bent a free-kick into the top corner to give City a two-goal half-time lead.

Yoane Wissa struck five minutes before the end to set up an unnecessarily nervy finish for City, who had good control of the game while still needing Kasper Schmeichel to make a couple of good saves. Here's how we scored the players.

He pulled off a couple of excellent saves in the second half when City were caught napping at the back post, with his point-blank stop to deny Mbeumo the pick of the bunch. His positioning is so good that he always makes those chances much more difficult for attackers.

It felt like he was City’s biggest attacking threat at times, playing an unusual right-back-striker hybrid role. He didn’t always have the end product to go with his advances, and it also meant he was caught out at the back, with Brentford getting in behind down the right.

Extremely solid for the majority of the game, marshalling the defence well, shrugging off attackers, playing with composure to get the ball down. But he was one of those guilty of complacency to allow Brentford back into it, giving the ball away for Wissa’s goal.

Whether it’s simply the pressure of having Fofana and Evans back and his position being under threat, Soyuncu has been much better over the past month or so and was very good again on Sunday. He blocked shots, won headers, and did particularly well intercepting forward balls to pen Brentford in.
