Justin Bijlow claims Manchester United have made contact with him over transfer

Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has claimed Manchester United made contact over a possible transfer but have not submitted an offer for him.

Bijlow was first choice for the Eredivisie club last season and made 34 appearances in all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets in the process. The goalkeeper position continues to be a problem area for United this summer after David de Gea's departure and the uncertainty surrounding Dean Henderson's future.

On Thursday, the Reds announced they had signed Inter Milan shot stopper Andre Onana to become their first choice for the forthcoming season. But, MEN Sport understands United are open to signing two goalkeepers this summer with Urawa Red Diamonds' Zion Suzuki also on their shortlist.

One of the other names touted was Bijlow and he has now confirmed in an interview with FR12 there was some interest from United. He explained: "I don’t want to talk about it too much, it’s just quiet now.

"There was just contact. Manchester United have not made an offer to Feyenoord, but what I say: I don’t want to talk about it out of respect for Feyenoord.

"I want to achieve the highest achievable in my career. When that is, we will see for ourselves. Another year at Feyenoord, that’s never bad."

While a move for another high profile 'keeper would be surprising this summer, United may wish to keep the door open with Bijlow should they need to replace Henderson or Tom Heaton at some stage in the future.
