Women's World Cup 2023: Day Four round-up as Jamaica hold France despite Shaw red card

Manchester City's Khadija Shaw was sent off late on as her Jamaica side claimed a first point at the FIFA Women's World Cup on a thrilling day four.

Shaw received a yellow card in either half as the Reggae Girlz shutout France to earn a famous draw, but will miss Jamaica's next game against Panama.

New Arsenal recruit Amanda Ilestedt scored late on to secure Sweden three points with a 2-1 win over South Africa.

The talented side, who always seem to be the bridesmaid but never the bride on the international stage, came from a goal behind as Ilestedt headed home in the 90th minute.

The Swedes have reached the semi-finals in each of their past three major tournaments, including their 4-0 loss to the Lionesses at the Euros last year.

Elsewhere, the Netherlands put in a convincing performance against World Cup debutants Portugal in Group E despite a 1-0 scoreline.

By 90 minutes, Sweden overwhelmed Desiree Ellis’ defensively solid South Africa and stole three points from a last-gasp Kosovare Asllani corner that found the head of Ilestedt.

The win sends Sweden top of Group G as Argentina and Italy face off tomorrow in Auckland.

Coach Gerhardsson said: “We made a little too many tactical and
