John Kennedy lifts lid on Celtic exit chance as Ange was snubbed in favour of 'massive' Rodgers pull

John Kennedy has opened up on his chance to leave Celtic for Spurs - saying it was a 'massive pull' for him to stay at the club once it became clear Brendan Rodgers' return was on the cards.

The former coach to the Irishman during his first spell in Glasgow looked set to leave Parkhead after a long period of service to join Ange Postecoglou in his mission to Spurs. Kennedy was wanted by the Aussie for his new adventure in London after being aided by the coaching staff of Kennedy and fellow countryman Harry Kewell in his quest for a domestic Treble. Reports suggested the former Hoops defender wanted to seek a new challenge in the Premier League but in the end Rodgers sought for the coach to remain in post.

And Kennedy, who was linked with managerial posts at Hearts and Hibs previously, admits it was an 'interesting' summer for him but that once he knew Rodgers would return to Glasgow, it was an easy choice. Yet the 39-year-old reckons there were possibilities for his situation to have changed, and he revealed he still keeps in close contact with Postecoglou.

He told Sky Sports: "When I was first team coach under him [Rodgers], we had a very fluid relationship. In his time away, we always kept in touch, meeting for dinner and having discussions. It's good to have him back and I have a good relationship with him, hopefully that bodes well.

"The summer was interesting. Obviously Ange decided to move on to Spurs. I've been there a few times when managers have changed, there's the uncertainty. You never know what's around the corner or if the club are in discussions with other people.

"I was in close contact with Ange and there were different possibilities, but Brendan was coming back to Celtic, the club and Brendan wanted
