Joao Cancelo has launched into a furious rant about Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, claiming 'lies were told!'

The 29-year-old was part of the City team that won the Premier League in 2021 and 2022, but was loaned out to Bayern Munich midway through the Treble-winning season. He's currently on loan at Barcelona.

Despite his contract with Manchester City running until 2027, his recent comments about the club and their manager seem to rule out any chance of a return. He claims "lies were told" when it was reported that Guardiola let him leave due to his reaction to being dropped, and he called City "ungrateful". Cancelo has been doing well at the Nou Camp this season, scoring in Barcelona's Champions League round of 16 win over Napoli. It's understood that Barcelona would like to make his move permanent, but no agreement has been reached on a fee yet.

"Lies were told! " Cancelo told A Bola (via Goal). "I've never been a bad team-mate for them and you can ask either (Nathan) Ake or Rico (Lewis). I don't have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that's the manager's opinion. I stayed because it's not true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything. I remember a time when I was robbed and attacked and the next day I was playing at the Emirates against Arsenal.
