What Real Madrid supporters did to Man City boss Pep Guardiola before Champions League tie

Real Madrid fans produced a raucous chorus of boos when Pep Guardiola’s name was announced over the Bernabeu tannoy prior to Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Manchester City.

The Catalan is not a popular figure in Madrid given his successful tenure at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012. Guardiola has a healthy record against Los Blancos as a manager, winning 13 and drawing five of his 23 encounters prior to City’s visit this week.

Guardiola lifted 14 major pieces of silverware during his four-year stint at the Nou Camp, including two Champions League titles. Real fans have not forgotten his success, having also been a La Masia academy product at Barcelona.

This is the first time Man City and Real Madrid have met in the quarter-final stage, having also previously met in the round of 16. Going into the contest, City had earned the most wins, coming out triumphant four times and losing three of their ten prior meetings.
