Jim Goodwin active for Dundee United transfers as he offers caveat to give title chances a jolt

Jim Goodwin is actively working on January transfer targets to give Dundee United’s promotion push a bit of a jag.

The United boss wants to add to his Tannadice squad in their push for Championship glory. United’s form has tailed off with one point from the last six and Goodwin is looking to give his players a bit more support and competition. The United boss admitted: “When I think back to my time as a player it was always quite exciting when a new face or two come into the building. It gives everyone a little jag as well to up their game and to keep that competition there. As always, it is a collective effort. It is to come in and add to the squad.”

United are set to post poor financial figures after their relegation from the Premiership. However, the Tannadice hierarchy will still make funds available for Goodwin to add. He confirmed: “We have been active in terms of assessing the options that are out there.

“It is always a difficult window to get anything done in because the options are quite limited. The good players who are at clubs tend still to be wanted and those who aren’t available, possibly, haven’t played a great deal of football.

“It is about getting the balance right. We are trying to strengthen the squad. That is the most important thing.

“The chairman and chief executive have been a great support. They will make finances available if the right type of players become available to us. We would like to keep players as soon as possible so we can strengthen.

“It is not to take anyone’s place in the team but it is to have more competition for places, especially going into the second half of the season, where teams do get a little bit leggy. It would be nice to freshen things up and we are in a position to do
