Jamie McGrath closes in on Aberdeen transfer as free agent finally set for Dons signing

Wanted man Jamie McGrath is on the verge of sealing a move to Aberdeen as he finally gets set for the Granite City.

The 26-year-old has long been on the Pittodrie wishlist with former boss Jim Goodwin keen to reunite with his former St Mirren charge before he joined Dundee United. But the Irishman is finally set to head to Aberdeen with the Scottish Sun stating he is heading north despite previous interest from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts before signing Alex Lowry.

McGrath scored nine goals last season despite United's relegation has been on the search for his next club since becoming a free agent at Wigan. He has been linked with a clutch of clubs but Barry Robson has been keen to get him on board amid a season which brings guaranteed European group stage football which could take place in the Europa League if they see off Hacken.

Robson has already moved to complete a bunch of signings this summer, with the likes of Or Dadia and Slobodan Rubezic bolstering the backline, while captain Graeme Shinnie made it a permanent deal also from Wigan. The Dons may look to get "three or four" more in as per the head coach and supremo Dave Cormack.

James McGarry, Rhys Williams and Leighton Clarkson are also on board for the Euro adventure that begins on Thursday night.
