James McGarry nears Aberdeen FC transfer as Central Coast Mariners defender 'close' to six figure deal

Central Coast Mariners defender James McGarry is reportedly 'close' to sealing a move to Aberdeen.

Barry Robson hinted at an imminent new recruit ahead of the Dons' Premiership opener with Livingston on Saturday, after previously sealing the permanent moves of captain Graeme Shinnie and Leighton Clarkson. But it appears 26-year-old McGarry, a New Zealand international, is closing in on a move to Pittodrie with the left-back set to cost around six figures from the Australian side.

The Press and Journal report the defender, a former team mate of ex-Rangers and Hibs striker Jason Cummings, will push the likes of Jonny Hayes and Jack McKenzie for places in the North East. Robson dropped a tease on Wednesday that more bodies will be brought in the door, and eased fears over the future of midfielder Ylber Ramadani who is attracting interest from Serie A with Lecce and Hellas Verona.

Meanwhile McGarry, who previously turned out for Newcastle Jets and only earned a move to Mariners in February, could be the latest addition to a new-look defence with Slobodan Rubezic and Or Dadia also sealing moves last month.
