Jadon Sancho has nightmare night for Borussia Dortmund as Manchester United loanee misses sitter

Manchester United loanee Jado Sancho had a night to forget as he made his return from injury for Borussia Dortmund.

After missing the Bundesliga clash against Heidenheim with a muscle injury last week, the winger returned to the squad for the clash against Freiburg on Friday night. Dortmund came out as 3-0 winners, thanks to a double from Donyell Malen and a goal from Niclas Fullkrug.

Sancho replaced Marco Reus just after Dortmund’s third goal in the 88th minute. Around three minutes after making his way onto the pitch, the 23-year-old had the perfect chance to score his first goal since returning to the club.

Dortmund got in behind the Freiburg defence, and Julian Brandt crossed the ball for Sancho at the back post. A slip by the goalkeeper meant that he had the full goal to aim for, but his left-footed effort only looped into the air and into the goalkeeper’s thankful arms.

The appearance, streamed on Sky Sports Football's YouTube channel, was Sancho’s third since signing for Dortmund in the January window. He recorded two assists in his first two appearances against Darmstadt 98 and FC Koln.

Earlier this week, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said that it’s unlikely that the England man’s move to the club will become permanent in the summer. "Unfortunately for both players [Ian Maatsen and Jadon Sancho], neither option was really realistic. If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might now be very, very difficult," he told Sky Sports Germany.
