Manchester United transfer news live - Injury latest as Man Utd prepare for FA Cup fixture

Manchester United's top-four aspirations suffered a blow on Saturday after being beaten 2-1 by Fulham at Old Trafford.

Alex Iwobi netted a winner deep into stoppage time to clinch all three points for the Cottagers, who, just a few minutes earlier, had seen Calvin Bassey's opener wiped out by Harry Maguire. The England defender had brought United level in the final minute of regulation time and it looked as though it would be enough to earn the Reds a point.

Coupled with Aston Villa's 4-2 win over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park, United are now eight points shy of the final Champions League berth. They also missed the chance to move level on points with Tottenham Hotspur in fifth.

United, fortunately, have the opportunity to get the defeat to Fulham out of their system quickly, facing Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening. United will make the trip to the City Ground with the ambition of progressing to the last eight.

Elsewhere, off the pitch, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now into his second week as co-owner after his 27.7 per cent stake in the club was confirmed last Tuesday evening. Fellow Ineos official Sir David Brailsford was in attendance for Saturday's defeat to Fulham.

After Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Fulham, United need an immediate response when they face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Not only was the result damaging on Saturday, the performance was also a great concern. Erik ten Hag's men never got going, producing a lifeless showing that raised no shortage of concerns. Too many individuals were off the pace and changes will have to be considered at the City Ground.

Furthermore, the FA Cup remains United's only hope of winning a trophy this season.
