‘I’m sure’ - Sky Sports man confident Paratici will address Spurs weakness in bid to keep Conte

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge is confident that Tottenham will be looking to sign a left-sided centre-back in the summer transfer window.

During the January transfer window, Fabio Paratici signed Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, as Antonio Conte had made it crystal-clear that additions were a necessity for success.

However, the north London club failed to bolster their options in defence. This has particularly been an issue for the Italian, as the squad lacks depth in the left centre-back position, a crucial aspect to his wing-back formation.

Conte has duly played left-back Ben Davies in that position due to a lack of left-footed defenders.

Reassuringly, Bridge expects Conte and Paratici to address the left-sided defensive role when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he claimed: “I’m sure Tottenham will be looking at getting a left centre-back. I’d be amazed if Tottenham aren’t looking at at least one experienced central defender this summer.”

Whilst it is fortunate that Davies can play out of position, the Wales international has struggled at points this season. SofaScore has ranked the defender 16th in Spurs’ ratings for the current Premier League campaign with an average score of 6.85, having recently fluctuated following his 8.1 display in the Lilywhites’ 4-0 victory over Leeds after a 6.7 performance in the preceding loss to Burnley.

Worryingly, the Welshman will need to stay fit for the remainder of the season due to Conte’s lack of natural left-sided defenders. This illustrates just how imperative it is that the club bring in someone to fit that bill in the summer, having failed to do so when they clearly needed to in January.
