Manchester United fans give resounding response to Roy Keane suggestion to appoint Diego Simeone

Manchester United fans have given a resounding ‘no’ to Roy Keane’s suggestion that Diego Simeone should be the club’s next manager.

United are continuing their search for a new permanent boss, with the club looking to make an appointment before the end of the season as they look to get their new man in before the opening of the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag remain the frontrunners for the position, although there is no suggestion United have a favourite at this moment in time.

The club are still considering names, and former captain Keane has suggested one that could be thrown into the mix.

"Maybe Simeone, he’s the right kind of character. He’s having a difficult spell with Atletico. His race has maybe run with them,” Keane told The Overlap Live.

"Simeone, go and get him, he’s a big character. He’s done great things. He’s a great character, a big personality. He doesn’t mess around with players. Maybe someone like him coming into the club, could work.

"It can soon change. I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom, there’s still good things going on at United, but they’ve got to get the manager.

"If the manager is not right, then the rest will just fall apart."

United fans though are not at all convinced by the idea, and have given Keane’s suggestion short shrift on social media.

United fans will get a closer look at Simeone in a couple of weeks’ time as he brings his Atletico Madrid side to Old Trafford for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The Reds picked up a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano last week thanks to Anthony Elanga’s equaliser, and will be hoping they can go one better at home to book their place in the quarter-finals.
