I cried in the bathroom during Man United training to hide my true feelings about bizarre snub

Irene Guerrero has spoken about her challenging stint at the club. The former Manchester United midfielder recounted moments of emotional struggle, claiming there were times when she 'had to go into the bathroom to cry' during training sessions.

The 27-year-old, who was part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad in the summer of 2023, joined United in September that year but faced a tough season marred by a knee injury. Guerrero made only seven appearances across all competitions for Marc Skinner’s team, starting just once before moving on to Mexican side America in July.

Speaking to Marca, as quoted by the PA news agency, Guerrero expressed her frustration. She said: "I did everything in my power to get a chance, but when the weeks go by and you don’t get it, you see how small you are. When I returned to training in January (after the injury), I had minutes in some games between January and March, but then there is a period where I don’t play at all."

Guerrero also touched upon the difficulties of not being given a fair opportunity to prove herself. She said: "I fully understand that a coach may like one profile of player more than another and that’s absolutely fine, but being denied the opportunity to show your level or potential and then see if it fits into your game model or not..."
