What Ruben Amorim has to do to emulate Arne Slot Liverpool feat at Manchester United

Pundit and former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has outlined what Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim must do to replicate the strong start Arne Slot has enjoyed at Anfield.

The Portuguese coach took charge of his first game last week when United drew 1-1 away at Ipswich Town. His first home game with the side ended in a narrow 3-2 Europa League victory against Norwegian side FK Bodo/Glimt.

Slot, on the other hand, succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the dugout at the end of last season and has enjoyed a promising start to his tenure. Liverpool are currently top of both the Premier League and Champions League ahead of the crucial winter period.

Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Collymore, who represented Liverpool between 1995 and 1996, highlighted that Slot made no changes to his squad in his first transfer window with just one arrival in Federico Chiesa. After a failed attempt to lure Spain international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Ryan Gravenberch has stepped up and become one of Slot's most consistent performers this season, which may not have happened had a new signing come through the door.

“Amorim needs to do what Arne Slot has done,” Collymore wrote. “Give everybody a chance, and slowly but surely implement his system, making sure he’s got players to play that system.

“He can then go to the board and the technical staff at the end of the season, or even before then – around May time – and say ‘I want to keep him, him and him, he could fit into the system, these can’t’.”
