Hull FC young gun Connor Wynne on the night that changed his career how he knew it

It's summer 2021. Hull FC are down the lane, fans are back in attendance, and life, with live rugby league and the days getting warmer, couldn't be more normal. Little did we all know then just how the events that night would shape the fortunes of one young man.

A costly win, Hull, who had already lost Josh Griffin to a season ending Achilles rupture, saw both Carlos Tuimavave and Cameron Scott go down to injuries. A centre crisis was looming.

The next week saw Brett Hodgson's side travel to Leigh, with the head coach throwing a spanner in the works; Connor Wynne, the once ring-fenced academy fullback, would be playing at centre. What?

Eighty minutes later and the young gun had turned out his best performance in Super League to date. He hasn't looked back.

"I was behind Jake and Shauly and it was in that Castleford game last year where Carlos and Cam went off," Wynne told Hull Live. "I dropped a hint to Brett and said if you need me to play centre then I will. He told me to 'go for it' and it took off from there. I like to be that player who can play a few positions but centre is the main position I want to go for now.

"I'm really enjoying it. It's probably the best I've felt in a long-time and probably the best season I've had so far. It's only the start, and with me playing almost every week now, I have to keep on improving and get better and better. That's what it's all about as a young boy coming through."

A year later and Wynne is enjoying his best season as a first team player to date. Making twelve appearances in all competitions this year, the young gun has seven tries.
