Adam Pearson backing Hull FC's youth as he explains benefits of new training ground hub

Hull FC chairman Adam Pearson is looking at the positives despite a crippling injury list that could see the club miss up to a dozen players or more ahead of Sunday evening's Magic Weekend fixture against Hull KR.

Nine senior players missed the Leeds game last Saturday afternoon, with two more picking up injuries, and three suspended for Super League's annual event. Cameron Scott and Jacob Hookem left the field with knocks, and on Monday the RFL's match review panel revealed bans for Ligi Sao, Kane Evans and Jordan Johnstone.

That means that youth will be given even more chance up in Newcastle, with the likes of Charlie Severs, Denive Balmforth et al set to be included in the squad. Pearson has no problem with that, but insists patience is the key.

"It presents an opportunity now for some of our young players to establish themselves," Pearson wrote in his programme notes. "A key part of our long-term strategy is to enhance our youth pathways and give younger players the chance to shine.

"We have to be patient with these guys. It will take time for our younger cohort, but it is the start of what we believe will be a positive period for the club with some of these younger guys.

"I think it is something our fan base really appreciate, watching homegrown players making their way into the first team and Super League and long may that continue. Let's give them our best support."

Hull's young guns have been leading the way this season. Amongst senior stars like Jake Connor, Manu Ma'u and Chris Satae, it's the club's youngest talent that has been the brightest spark.
