Hull FC's spine players have to stop letting their impressive pack down

Josh Reynolds epitomises a lot of the problems with Hull FC as a team - you don't know what you're going to get from him. In truth, I say that with a bit more respect towards Josh than I do others because he hasn't played too much.

He's missed some football and come back into a decent team. But he comes with a price tag. It's no secret he is one of the club's biggest earners and you can say it as much as you want, you have to deliver. If you're seen to be earning big bucks and not delivering, that's a problem and that's the truth.

It's not just him. Luke Gale hasn't set the world alight and Jake Connor was a poor, poor player in the derby. In a key position, some of his plays in the derby were atrocious.

The spine needs to start pulling its end of the bargain because the pack is doing its part right now. We've spoken about consistency in performances and the pack has stepped up. In the derby, Jack Brown was their best off the bench, Brad Fash has been one of the best players the club has had this season and Chris Satae has largely been great. Manu Ma'u is another where he brings that level and you know what you will get.

But too often you're asking them to play with less than 50 per cent of the possession because the people who are supposed to be creating are making poor plays and putting the team on the back foot. Yes, the pack has been good, but can you name a team whose best players have been the forwards and won a Grand Final?
