Three key players Hull FC must move to retain

The recruitment window is open and Super League outfits are starting to put their squads together for the 2023 season and beyond. are no different and they’ll be making contact with off-contract players in a bid to bolster Brett Hodgson’s squad for next year.

However, FC have plenty of decisions to make regarding their own players, too, with 10 approaching the end of their current deals. Here, Hull Live takes a look at three players the club must tie down in the coming weeks.

Eyebrows were raised when Hull FC plucked Lovodua from South Sydney Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup team during pre-season, but he has been one of the Super League signings of the season so far. His energy, talent and versatility has made him a crowd favourite at the MKM Stadium and those fans will be desperate to see the Fijian stay on with the Black and Whites.

The club do have the option to extend his contract into next year and they’ll no doubt be making plans to do exactly that in the coming weeks. He’s been a breath of fresh air in East Yorkshire and he’ll be one Hodgson will be keen to see stick around.

After signing up for another year at the MKM in October, Ma’u has hit the ground running in 2022 and continues to show just how important he is to the Black and Whites’ cause. His power and passion in the back-row goes a long way and he’s such a reliable performer within Hodgson’s pack.

Much may depend on Ma’u’s plans and whether he feels ready and willing to go around once more with FC, given he will be 34 by the end of the season. However, Hull may well be doing all they can to persuade the Tonga international to extend his stay in East Yorkshire and stick around at the MKM.
