Hull City move swiftly to replace Tony Pennock as new first team coach confirmed

Hull City have moved swiftly to replace departing first-team coach Tony Pennock by appointing Andy Dawson as Shota Arveladze's first-team coach at the MKM Stadium, working alongside assistant boss Peter van der Veen and goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson.

Dawson, a former Tigers player of some distinction, has been in charge of the Under-23s in recent times, but will now step up to replace Pennock, who ended his eight-year association with City after last weekend's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest to pursue a career in management.

The 43-year-old notched up over 500 career appearances, with over 300 coming for the Tigers across a decade-long spell earlier this century, and has been working with the Under-23s since September 2019.

Dawson's appointment is likely to go down well within the City dressing room, particularly given the departure of Pennock was so keenly felt, with defender Sean McLoughlin explaining his replacement would have big boots to fill.

"Tony's been here for eight years now and in the three years I've been here at the club, he's been incredible really for all the lads," McLoughlin told Hull Live. "As a coach he's a top-class and the relationship he has with everybody, you can always go to him with your problems. Or even if you want to talk about the game, shape, or whatever, he's really approachable.

"I just want to wish him all the best in whatever he goes on to, and I'm sure he'll be a success."
