QPR managerial update emerges regarding 42-year-old

John Eustace is still a part of QPR’s managerial shortlist following the departure of Mark Warburton, as per a report from The Athletic.

The report states that Eustace, who is the current assistant manager of the R’s, found himself as one of the final two candidates for the Watford job, with the soon-to-be Championship club eventually opting for Rob Edwards.

The 42-year-old started his managerial journey with Kidderminster Harriers, before becoming the London club’s assistant manager in 2018.

Eustace had a brief spell as QPR caretaker boss in 2019, prior to the arrival of Mark Warburton, and whilst still working with the Championship outfit, he also holds the same position within the Republic of Ireland national team.

The report says that Eustace is on the list of candidates who the R’s are yet to speak to regarding the vacant managerial spot at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

The verdict

It will be interesting to see just how many candidates are involved in the process of QPR appointing Mark Warburton’s successor, given that Blackburn Rovers, who are in a very similar situation, received 60 applications for their open position.

Eustace is an excellent footballing mind and is already settled in with the club, possessing a good understanding of what is required next at QPR.

It remains to be seen the calibre of candidates that Eustace is up against, however, it is no surprise that he is a part of QPR’s search.

Watford’s interest in the 42-year-old is a further indication of how highly he is regarded as a young coach.
