Huddersfield Town sweating on worrying injury blow heading into Middlesbrough clash and beyond

Huddersfield Town are sweating on the injury Danny Ward picked up in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers. 

Ward was withdrawn at half-time at the John Smith’s Stadium yesterday with an injury, with Carlos Corberan rather vague on the setback post-match, explaining to his press conference how the striker had asked to be substituted.

“He was asking for the change,” Corberan said.

“He had an injury and couldn’t continue.

“I haven’t spoken yet with the medical staff to see if it was a precaution or if it was a serious injury. I don’t know yet.

“I don’t know yet (on the specifics of the injury), the medical staff told me that he couldn’t keep playing and as soon as I knew this I was focused on adapting with the players that we had.”

Ward has scored 13 goals this season for Huddersfield, with the 30-year-old emerging as Corberan’s go-to striking option ahead of Jordan Rhodes and Fraizer Campbell.

The goals of Ward have propelled Huddersfield into third in the Championship table and they remain in a strong position to secure play-off football despite yesterday’s draw.

Looking ahead to Monday’s clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, Corberan outlined how Ward’s injury hadn’t impacted his plans for that fixture in particular, as it was never his intention to play the striker.

“We need to evaluate him,” Corberan continued.

“My idea was to play with him in today’s game (QPR) and then let him rest, so let’s see.

“It’s not going to change my plans because my idea was to play at Middlesbrough without Danny Ward.”

The Verdict

Losing Ward for any extended run of fixtures would be a real concern for Huddersfield at this stage of the season.
