Huddersfield Town state of play, transfer rumours and done deals as summer window opens

The transfer window is now officially open for Championship clubs, with the summer market set to remain open until 11pm on Saturday 1st September. That gives Huddersfield Town another two and a half months to assemble their squad for the new campaign as they aim to push for promotion once again.

The club have already announced their summer retained list and announced their first signing of the summer, but there is sure to be plenty more dealing to be done ahead of the early start to the season at the end of July and on through August before deadline day.

So what are Town looking for? What are the areas of greatest priority? And what can we expect in terms of ins and outs over the next few weeks? Here’s the state of play for Leigh Bromby and his recruitment team…

The retained list was the club’s first order of business as they confirmed that six first-team squad players will be released at the end of their contracts on 30th June: Jamal Blackman, Reece Brown, Fraizer Campbell, Carel Eiting, Naby Sarr and Alex Vallejo. On top of that, loanees Tino Anjorin and Levi Colwill will head back to Chelsea and Danel Sinani will return to Norwich City.

The club announced at the same time that they have opted to trigger one-year extensions for Josh Koroma and Harry Toffolo amid ongoing talks over longer-term contracts.

Will Boyle was last week confirmed as Town’s first signing of the summer, with the Cheltenham Town captain agreeing to move to the John Smith’s Stadium when his deal in Gloucestershire comes to an end. The 26-year-old centre-back is a Terriers academy graduate but has been away from the club since completing a permanent transfer in January 2017.
