Nottingham Forest set to make transfer bid for Huddersfield Town's Harry Toffolo

Newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are reportedly weighing up a transfer bid for Huddersfield Town’s Harry Toffolo amid uncertainty over the left-back’s long-term future at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Former Town chairman Phil Hodgkinson had revealed in September that negotiations had been opened with both Toffolo and Josh Koroma, but neither player has yet committed to a new deal. Toffolo has made no secret that he and his family are happy in Yorkshire and said as recently as March that he hoped his contract situation would be resolved for the longer term.

However, with negotiations over a new longer-term deal stalling, the Terriers announced earlier this month that they had triggered a one-year extension to Toffolo’s contract, which would otherwise have expired this summer. That means that Town would be able to command a transfer fee from anyone who wants his services this summer.

The 26 year old has been a key player since arriving in January 2020, rarely missing a game when fit and finishing last season with six goals and eight assists in 45 Championship appearances – and The Athletic report that he has captured the attention of Forest, who beat Town in last month’s Championship play-off final to take their place in the Premier League.

They claim that Forest ‘will bid’ for Toffolo’s services this summer as they look to strengthen their squad options for their first season back in the top tier since 1999. Max Lowe was their first choice at left wing-back last season but struggled with injuries, requiring Jack Colback to fill in for much of the season.
