Huddersfield Town's Joe Allen stance amid transfer links to former Liverpool midfielder

Joe Allen become the latest player to be linked with Huddersfield Town at the weekend. The 32-year-old is now available after bringing an end to his six-year stay at Stoke City as he was unwilling to agree terms on a deal with reduced wages.

Although, Yorkshire Live understands that there is no interest from those in charge of recruitment at the John Smith’s Stadium. His wages, which remained close to Premier League level at Stoke, would likely be too high for the Terriers to even consider making an approach.

The Sun initially reported that Allen had emerged as a potential target for Town with his former club Swansea also considering making an offer for the pint-sized midfielder. The report claimed that “he has a number of offers” and will make a decision next week when his Stoke contract has officially expired.

Allen has made a total of 220 appearances in the last six years for the Potters, making it the club he has played for on the most occasions. As a largely deeper-lying midfielder, his haul of 20 goals and 19 assists in those games is a solid return and will be an asset to whoever he decides to play for.

Although, as mentioned, it is extremely unlikely that his next club will be Huddersfield as he is not an option being explored, contrary to reports elsewhere. The centre of midfield isn’t necessarily a priority position that needs to be addressed by the Terriers this summer and other positions in the team are likely to be targeted first.
