Transfer completed as Huddersfield Town sell right-back Pipa to Olympiacos

Huddersfield Town right-back Pipa has completed a transfer move to Greek champions Olympiacos for an undisclosed fee.

The 24 year old arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium from Espanyol in 2020 and went straight into Carlos Corberan’s first team, serving as a key player in their fight against relegation from the Championship, but missed the first half of last season injured and had to battle with Ollie Turton for a place in the starting lineup.

Pipa made 54 appearances in all competitions over his two seasons at the club, claiming two goals and six assists, with his most recent outing coming in the play-off final defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Town head of football operations Leigh Bromby said: “Pipa and his representatives made it clear that he was very interested in taking the opportunity to move to Olympiacos. That’s understandable, as this presents him with the chance to play in the Champions League.

“However, we still had to ensure that the terms of the transfer were right for our club - and we have now reached that agreement. Everyone at the club would like to thank Pipa for his contribution to the club over the last two seasons. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Turton’s good performances as part of a much-improved back line last season means that Town look unlikely to immediately pursue a direct replacement for Pipa, especially as the priority this summer is to add attacking reinforcements and the Spaniard started just six regular league games on the way to a third place finish in the Championship last season.
