Harry Souttar transfer option emerges as Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers' £15m man 'could leave' Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers splashed out £15million to sign Harry Souttar for Leicester City and the Australia international could be available – just as the Celtic boss is set to be on the hunt for a central defender.

The Parkhead boss admitted he will have to bring in a replacement for Carl Starfelt with the Swede set for a move to Celta Vigo. And it it comes at a time when Souttar faces an uncertain Foxes future with new King Power Stadium gaffer Enzo Maresca admitting the 24-year-old brother of Rangers and Scotland star John could be on his way out.

Souttar was an unused substitute in their opening day English Championship win against second tier new boys Coventry City and the Italian said on the eve of the game: “Harry’s a guy who since day one has been working very well. But because the window is open, for Harry and for the rest of the 25 players that we have, something can happen.

“About the market, my situation is like the rest of managers’ situation, until it’s closed, many things can happen. In our case, for sure our squad is not close, it’s not finished. Players have left, and there’s five new players. It’s a work in progress. For sure, we have too many. For sure some of them will leave.”

Dane Jannik Vestergaard played at the weekend but fell out of favour under Rodgers after an interview in which he appeared to criticise the Irishman. Maresca has also signed Callum Doyle on loan – a player he knows well from his time at Manchester City. Souttar could find game time limited and might look elsewhere for first-team football.
