'Happy for him' - Ben Chilwell sends message to Mason Mount following Manchester United transfer

Ben Chilwell will miss having Mason Mount at Chelsea this season but hopes to see his former teammate succeed at Manchester United.

Mount joined United in a £55million deal at the start of the month, penning a five-year deal that can be extended for a further 12 months. The England international had been involved in the Chelsea set-up for 18 years, opting against signing a new deal in search of a fresh project.

That new opportunity was found in Manchester, with Old Trafford touted as the 24-year-old's destination since the start of the summer window. Mount has featured in every pre-season game for United so far and is expected to play a key role in Erik ten Hag's plans next season.

It was undoubtedly a hard call for Mount to leave his boyhood club, and the midfielder had developed a close relationship with fellow Englishman Chilwell who arrived from Leicester City in 2020. But despite the rivalry, he wished him all the best going forward.

"Mason was one of my closest friends on the team," Chilwell told Football.London. "On a personal level, you are going to miss one of your best mates that you spent a lot of time with at the training ground and away from the training ground.

"I think I said it on my Instagram when he left, he was one of the reasons why I joined the club, so of course it’s sad for me personally to see him leave. But I am not going to comment on his reasoning for leaving.
