Benjamin Pavard sends message to Raphael Varane after Manchester United win vs Wolves

Benjamin Pavard was quick to comment on Raphael Varane's social media post after the Manchester United defender scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday night.

Varane was the surprise winner as United kicked off their 2023/24 Premier League campaign with three points and a clean sheet. Erik ten Hag's side were second best on the night, struggling to contain an electric Wolves outfit who did everything but score.

United showed their clinical edge with a lovely piece of play that led to the winning goal midway through the second half. Bruno Fernandes dinked a beautiful pass through to Aaron Wan-Bissaka whose lofted cross found Varane to head home from close range.

United survived a late onslaught and a penalty scare to secure the win, and Varane took to Instagram shortly after full-time to celebrate.

Among those to respond to the defender was former French international teammate Pavard, who posted two fire emojis in the comments. United have been heavily linked with a move for the Bayern Munich man in recent weeks, with Ten Hag planning to strengthen at the back if Harry Maguire leaves.

United have accepted a £30million fee for the England international but the move is yet to be finalised. The club are said to have made contact with a list of options to replace him, Pavard among them.

The 27-year-old is thought to be keen on a move, but United remain short of Bayern's £35million valuation.
