Hamilton Accies sign Ayr United goalkeeper as side build for Championship campaign

Hamilton Accies have made their first signing for next season after confirming the arrival of goalkeeper Charlie Albinson from Ayr United on a two-year deal.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed last month that Accies had swooped to bring the Englishman to New Douglas Park next season and the Championship side have now announced he is John Rankin's first summer recruit, following the club winning promotion from League One in May.

Albinson, 27, made 22 appearances for the Honest Men last season, helping them stay in the Championship, and he will now come up against his former side in the division next season.

A statement from Accies read: "Hamilton Academical are today delighted to announce that Charlie Albinson has agreed to sign a two-year deal with the club, after spending three years with Ayr United.

"Charlie came through the Manchester City Academy and has also played for Blackburn Rovers, Southport and Warrington."

Speaking on his first signing, manager John Rankin said: “It’s great to get Charlie into the squad. He’s a quality keeper with experience in the league.

“I spoke to Charlie about what we’re trying to do here, and the team we’re looking to build and he was on board straight away which is exactly what we’re looking for in the team.”

Albinson is expected to face competition from Dean Lyness for the gloves after his fellow Englishman helped see Accies through the play-offs, although he is yet to agree a new deal.
