Hamilton Accies star bags double as Championship side kick-off friendlies

Two-goal Hamilton Accies star Lee Kilday says he was just glad to get 60 minutes under his belt in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Cumbernauld Colts.

Defender Kilday side-footed into the net seven minutes in against the Lowland League side, and a looping header earned him his and Accies’ second in 32 minutes.

Scott Martin dispossessed a Colts defender before rattling in a third in 43 minutes, and after the entire starting line-up was replaced in 61 minutes, young Findlay Cameron bagged a fourth seven minutes from time with a strike that sneaked under Colts keeper Steven Kearney.

The other half of Accies’ squad then beat Gala Fairydean Rovers 2-0 in back-to-back fixtures at New Douglas Park, as they prepare for their Premier Sports Cup group stages opener at home to Stirling Albion on July 16.

Kilday, 32, said: “It was good just to get back on the pitch, the first game back since being back in.

“We’ve worked hard, so it’s good to get a game again and to get two goals is good in the first game.

“We’re just trying to get the match sharpness back, try and get as many games in as possible before we start the cup games.

“It was good to get back on the pitch and get knocking the ball about again, get a few minutes under our belts.

“Colts were good. Any game that you start with is going to be a tough one, but it was a good exercise for us and good to get the match fitness and sharpness.

“I’m sure they’ll do well in the Lowland League this season.

“There are a few games coming up and it’s about getting as many minutes as we can before starting the cup campaign.”

Hamilton are due to continue their pre-season friendlies programme at Kelty Hearts on Saturday.
