Clark Robertson planning Israel return despite ROCKETS going off outside star's Ashdod apartment

Clark Robertson has told how he plans to return to Israel to resume his football career.

Ashdod’s Scots star was sent home amid the sever escalation of the troubles in the Middle East earlier this month. The 30-year-old was also caught up in them. He had to run for cover as Tel Aviv airport came under rocket attack as he tried to make his own escape.

The Israel Premier League has since been suspended and the country has been locked down as the Israelis respond to a terror attack by Hamas. The defender is back home in Aberdeen but has admitted he plans to return to Ashdod when he is told it is safe to do so. Robertson said: “I have genuinely loved my time out at Ashdod. Once it all calms down and I’m told it is safe then I’ll be going back. We just don’t know how long that will be

“The club doesn’t know what is going to happen. We are taking it day by day.

“It could be days, weeks or even months before I am back. I really don’t know.”

Robertson is keeping in constant touch with Ashdod officials and his teammates, keeping his fingers crossed they remain safe and well. Staying in Ashdod, which is around 30 miles from the Gaza border, Robertson told how one of his teammates posted a video of a rocket landing in front of his apartment just as he was trying to make his way back to Scotland.

He said: “Somebody in our WhatsApp group sent in a video of a rocket going off and hitting the water. You’re thinking about what could have happened.”

Robertson, a former Scotland Under-21 cap, swapped life in Portsmouth for Israeli football in the summer. He was well aware of the decades-old conflict in the area before he made the switch to the Middle East.

But he hadn’t even seen a hint of trouble before Hamas’ deadly attack on October 7
